Lost In Mazatlan

I met a few locals against better advice due to some folks visiting the city and literally losing their heads. The power of social media, and my sometimes crazy habit of trusting everyone from the start had me picked up from downtown and taken all across the city to see the mountains, beach boardwalk, the parts of the city that didn’t take the USD, and the architecture. Certainly a great trip since my friend Larry wasn’t able to leave the ship on this day.

I was dropped back off downtown. Looking at scarves for my mother possibly and looking lost at the same time, a stranger approached, but spoke NO ENGLISH. I pulled out my phone, thanked god for Google Translator and we wrote back and forth. Next thing I know we’re hopping in a taxi and headed god knows where. Another tour, but this time, more local and through the downtown streets. The city was a lot like Tijuana, but I was thankful for strangers who cared enough to make sure I had an amazing time there.

But then he had to go and I was someplace downtown, with no more wifi. I walked, and walked, and walked until I realized I was definitely going in the wrong direction. A second before I was about to attempt my intermediate Spanish, I saw a few people from the ship. I stopped them, and they remembered me from the ship gym, and we began walking in the right direction. Hey, I even got free Burger King out of it (they were curious to know if Mexican Burger King was better than American. It wasn’t).

A great time again.
