I met two British women, friends, in the airport in Marrakech, and we went on and on about our experiences in the Medina, the spice souk, the hostels and hotels, and our love of travel. Somewhere in the conversation I said something to the tune of “I can’t wait to return here.” This is where the conversation became a teaching moment.
“Never go to the same place twice. If you do, make sure there are years between the visits,” she said. I didn’t need her to elaborate. And I thought about the times I’ve blown through London and Paris and I’ll probably go back several more times, but I need to put more time between visits. If I’m sitting at my computer with disposable income in my pocket, I should look up strange lands and go there. Afterall, London and Amsterdam feels like home now, and I have yet to visit Budapest as Brenda suggested.
I’ve created my Wanderlist and I look forward to scratching off more and more places, and continuing to add to it.
Go new places, see new things. I’ve downloaded the app Been, and it broke my heart when it told me I’ve only seen 5% of the world. Time to move on and out!
